Squirrels belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scout Group. Girls and boys can join Squirrels from their 4th birthday. They can move to the next Section, Beavers. at the age of 6.
Just like all our sections, Squirrels helps young people gain skills for life – with a focus on the outdoors. It’s the best of Scouts – learning by doing and getting into the great outdoors – combined with early years best practice of storytelling, routine and play. The one hour sessions will be a brilliant opportunity for young people to take their first step into being part of Scouts, and they’ll help everyone get ready for the adventure of school too. Sessions will be packed with outdoors activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life. Of course, none of it would be possible without the support of the amazing leaders who plan and deliver such an inspiring programme.
Squirrels is our first provision for 4–5 year olds. Squirrels can achieve anything they set their minds to – and they have lots of fun along the way. There are plenty of reasons to get stuck in, weekly sessions will be packed with outdoors activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life.

Each badge is packed with wow and wonder, perfect for anyone who’s ever asked ‘Why?’ (or ‘Why not?’). You’ll tell stories and play games. Get active and explore the outdoors. Become a brilliant builder and a super chef. There’s something for everyone – and that means that there’s something for you.
There is a range of badges and awards available to young people in Squirrels. Below is a diagram showing where each well-earned badge is to be sewn onto your Squirrel jumper. Please speak to your leader about the exact uniform required as this can vary from group to group.
