Our Group's Historical Note

Northiam Baden-Powell Scout Troop was formed by an ex-army friend of Baden-Powell under the patronage of the local 'squire' Colonel Frewen ~ when the small troop camped with Baden-Powell at his home 'Ewhurst Place' in 1909. A year later the troop flag was presented by Baden-Powell. From 1922 to 1946 the troop closed on no less than three occasions, the last being due to the Second World War. In 1946 the group re-opened under G.S.M. Charles Partleton and the Cub Pack under C.M. Mrs. M. Stuart and in 1950 the Senior Scout Section, 'Rovers' came into being. Apart from a few dormant periods, generally as a result of Leadership changes, the group has remained active ever since.

The Headquarters and surrounding land is owned by the group after many years of fund raising by members and local community generosity.
