The training programme for adults involved in Scouting is being revised to cater for the 6-25 Youth Programme.
The new Adult Training Scheme was introduced in 2004. Basic details of the modular scheme are included on this website.

Adult Training will be administered by the County Training Manager, who then appoints Local Training Managers.
WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

The new scheme is modular based, with a total of 36 modules. Leaders within Sections will be required to do 18 modules, while Group Scout Leaders and Commissioners will be required to complete 15 modules.

There are four segments to the total training programme...

  1. All Apointments 8 Modules
  2. Section Leaders and Section Supporters 10 Modules
  3. Managers (GSLs, AGSLs, DCs, DDCs, ADCs, CCs, DCCs) 8 Modules
  4. Specialist Roles 10 Modules

All Leaders are required to undertake First Aid training to a minimum of First Response standard. This criteria is already in place in Hastings, Rye and District and will continue to be implemented within the County Training Calendar

Instead of all learning being done through attending courses, there are now three methods of learning:

  1. Taking account of prior learning,
  2. Distance learning (eg. by CD-Rom and videos),
  3. Attending Courses
TRANSITION TO THE NEW SCHEME

In future all Warranted Leaders will be required to complete a minimum of 5 hours ongoing training per year.

A NEW NATIONAL STRUCTURE FOR ADULT TRAINING

With the implementation of the new Adult Training Scheme, which will be administered through County instead of District, three new roles have been created.

The County Training Manager has overall responsibility for training throughout the county as a whole.

Local Training Managers (LTM's) will look after designated areas comprising several Districts.

Training Advisers (TA's) are perhaps the most important of the new roles. The TA's will help adults in Scouting produce simple Personal Learning Plans (PLP's) that identify which modules are appropriate to their role and also taking into account any prior learning experience.
