Is available to all Scouts aged 14 and over.

There are three levels of achievement -Bronze, Silver and Gold.

The minimum age for starting Bronze level is 14.

The minimum age for starting Silver level is 15.

The minimum age for starting Gold level is 16.

To enter the Scheme you must first obtain a record book from me. This costs about £6. Your Group may help you with funding.

At each level the Award consists of four sections:

  • Service: training for and practical service to the community.
    • Examples: police service, first aid, care for animals, lifeboat service.
  • Expedition: including journeying and camping out overnight.
  • Skills: choose from a wide range of skills and develop your expertise.
  • Physical recreation: choose a sport or activity and participate regularly.

In addition, at Gold level only there is a Residential Project, which involves staying away from home, with people you don't know, for about a week. A wide range of activities is available.

It will take you at least six months to complete your Bronze Award, a year to complete Silver, and eighteen months to complete Gold, but most people take a lot longer than that. You have until you are 25 to work on the Scheme.
