| Introduction The celebration of the Centenary of Scouting worldwide takes place in 2007 with the biggest events that Scouting has ever seen. This is an opportunity to promote the values, benefits and achievements of Scouting to the world, and also for millions of Scouts around the world to make a real difference to the lives of others through their Centenary activities. The common theme for the celebrations is “One World One Promise”. |
| UK 2007 Events and Activities During 2007, there will be a whole series of exciting events and activities around the UK. Some of these will be on a national scale whilst others will be local. There will also be a number of nationally co-ordinated events taking place locally, such as the Centenary Camps. Counties and Areas have appointed their own “Agent 2:007” with the mission to help every member, young or old, to get the maximum out of the Centenary of Scouting. | Scouting’s Sunrise Scouting is a million times bigger than when it started. Today, there are 28 million Scouts, in nearly every country in the world. On 1st August 2007, all 28 million Scouts will join together to celebrate the dawn of a new century of Scouting around the world. At 0800 hours, local time, Scouts will gather together to remake their Scout Promise which will be captured on television and the internet. |
| World Scout Jamboree The 21st World Scout Jamboree, hosted by the United Kingdom, will be the biggest World Scout Jamboree ever. 32,000 Scouts from nearly every country in the world will gather together in the UK to share in the spirit of Scouting from 27th July to 8th August 2007 at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Essex. As well as a large UK contingent and International Service Team, there will be opportunities to experience the Jamboree as day visitors. |
| Join-In-Centenary A “Join-in-Centenary” resource pack is being developed and is planned to be available in late 2006. This will be full of programme ideas to help every member of Scouting in the UK participate in the Centenary of Scouting to the full. |
| Brownsea Island The Brownsea Island site of the first experimental Scout camp in 1907 will be the focus of many of the worldwide Centenary celebrations especially on 1st August. In addition, there will be many opportunities from 2005 onwards to visit and camp on Brownsea Island. |
| Gifts For Peace Gifts for Peace is the Centenary project for National Scout Organisations around the world. From late 2005 Scouts will prepare for the Centenary of Scouting through practical projects on the theme of Peace planned and run by young people in every country. |
